Script Title: Game Of Thrones: The Stark Dynasty
Category: Drama Teleplay Spec
ID: 5014
Plot:
King Bran is worried about rebellion once news gets to Mereen, and Daario Naharis, that their Queen, Daenerys, has been killed. Bran sends his hand Tyrion, and master of coin Bronn, to preemptively go to Mereen to hopefully ease tensions. Queen of the North Sansa, turns down suitors as civilians believe she needs to be wed and bear children. Although the Night King is dead, Jon and the wildlings still fear the cold and what may be beyond the wall.
Concept:
Game of Thrones, “The Stark Dynasty” season 9 episode 1, picking up about a year after the show's final episode, feeding the curiosity of many fans of the show that were unsatisfied with the original ending. It takes place in various locations with various characters, authentic to most GOT episodes, including Jon beyond The Wall, Greyworm in Naath, Bran, Tyrion, Bronn, Lady Brienne in the Red Keep, etc.
Overall:
Game of Thrones, “The Stark Dynasty” answers the questions many lovers of the show have been curious about for years since the show's final episode. What happened to the Starks now that they are split up again? The writer does a great job of knowing what the readers and want, and giving us answers, while still keeping us roped in until the end. As the plots switch between each Stark's point of view, the structure feels similar to the show, specifically authentic to the later seasons as storylines start to intertwine. Each character's dialogue, including side characters that the writer did not forget to include, felt authentic, while still bringing a fresh, lighter side to some as tensions have eased.
Dialogue:
The dialogue is plentiful and the language fits in with the environment. From crude jokes to confident explanations of leadership, this dialogue meshes with not on the characters but the character’s current status.
Structure:
The pacing is authentic to the show. It bounces between different settings and different characters/plots. Similar to the final seasons of the show, problems start to overlap, and characters that may be far away, for example Greyworm, are still mentioned by Tyrion and King Bran.
Characters:
The writer does a great job of staying true to each character’s specific and nuanced personalities, while adding in some lighter moments as in this plot, tensions have died and people are able to relax a bit. For example, King Bran almost makes a joke to his hand, Tyrion. This keeps the characters refreshed and also adds to the plot.
Please keep in mind that the reader comments included as part of the competition entry are intended to summarize the reader's evaluation and should not be considered coverage notes. Austin Film Festival's coverage program is a separate, more extensive service.
